1. A diabetes management system, comprising:
- (a) a glucose meter for measuring a blood glucose level data; and
(b) a portable microprocessor-based unit in communication with the glucose meter such as to be capable of (i) advising a user to measure said blood glucose level data and (ii) presenting to said user an interactive presentation;
(c) wherein said blood glucose level data is used in a program of instructions running on the portable microprocessor-based unit or the glucose meter, or both, wherein said portable microprocessor-based unit comprises a multi-line display screen configured to present said blood glucose level data to said user; and
(d) wherein said program of instructions includes instructions to (i) advise said user to inject insulin based upon a diabetes management plan, (ii) present to said user (a) said blood glucose level data and (b) information configured to educate said user regarding management of diabetes, (iii) receive from said user responses confirming said blood glucose level data has been measured, and (iv) positively reinforce compliance with said diabetes management plan by providing incentives in said interactive presentation in response to said blood glucose level data being within an optimal range.

Input data corresponding to the blood glucose level data is used in a program of instructions running on the portable microprocessor-based unit or the glucose meter, or both. The program of instructions includes instructions to communicate a signal to inject insulin based upon the blood glucose level data.

(a) providing a glucose meter in communication with a portable microprocessor-based unit; (b) advising a user to measure blood glucose level data; (c) transmitting said blood glucose level data into the portable microprocessor-based unit from the glucose meter; (d) running a program of instructions on the portable microprocessor-based unit or the glucose meter or both, wherein said portable microprocessor-based unit (i) comprises a multi-line display screen configured to present said blood glucose level data to said user and (ii) is configured to present to said user graphs of said blood glucose level data; (e) inputting said blood glucose level data to the program of instructions; (f) instructing said user to inject insulin based on a diabetes management plan; (g) presenting to said user (a) said blood glucose level data and (b) information configured to educate said user regarding management of diabetes; (h) receiving from said user responses confirming said blood glucose level data has been measured; and (i) positively reinforce compliance with said diabetes management plan by providing incentives in an interactive presentation in response to said blood glucose level data being within an optimal range. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
