1. A method for forming a simulated household dust composition, the method comprising the steps of:
- A) providing a first container and a second container;
B) introducing a fibrous fraction component into the first container, the fibrous fraction component comprising up to about 45% to about 55% by weight of the simulated household dust, and wherein about 78% to about 100% by weight of the fibrous fraction component is formed from cotton fibers;
C) mixing the fibrous fraction component in the first container;
D) introducing a particulate fraction component into the second container, the particulate fraction component comprising from about 45% to about 55% of the simulated household dust, and wherein about 40% to about 70% by weight of the particulate fraction component is formed from skin cells;
E) mixing the particulate fraction component in the second container; and
F) mixing the fibrous fraction component from the first container with the particulate fraction component from the second container.

Abstract
An artificial test soil comprises particulate, hair, and fiber components, wherein said particulate component consists of mineral, food, and plant materials, so chosen and proportioned as to correlate to a typical soil found in the home. The test soil may be used to test cleaning products by application of a known amount thereof to a surface, cleaning of said surface, and determination of the amount of said soil removed from said surface.

11. A method for forming a simulated household dust composition for testing the efficacy of an elevated surface cleaning device, the method comprising the steps of:
-
A) introducing a fibrous fraction component into a container, the fibrous fraction component comprising up to about 45% to about 55% by weight of the simulated household dust, and wherein about 78% to about 100% by weight of the fibrous fraction component is formed from cotton fibers; B) introducing a particulate fraction component into the container, the particulate fraction component comprising from about 45% to about 55% of the simulated household dust, and wherein about 40% to about 70% by weight of the particulate fraction component is formed from skin cells, and; C) mixing the fibrous fraction component with the particulate fraction component to form the simulated household dust; wherein the simulated household dust is configured to simulate concentrations of fibrous components and particulate components found on elevated surfaces.
