1. A method for use in managing metadata, the method comprising:
- storing, in a magnetic hard disk set in an object addressable data storage system, data of objects;
storing, in an SSD set in the object addressable data storage system, metadata for the objects, the metadata including information necessary for determining the locations of the data of the objects in the magnetic hard disk set;
receiving an open file command, the open file command comprising an encoding identifying the command and the file name of a file to be opened;
checking a file system cache and prompting a metadata manager to retrieve the metadata for the object associated with the file to be opened from the SSD set; and
responding to the open file command with a positive response, the positive response including a file ID from the metadata identifying the file.
