1. An intravenous catheter anchoring device for securing a catheter to a patient, wherein the catheter includes a distal section configured to be at least partially inserted into the patient and a proximal section, said device comprising:

  • a platform configured for removable attachment to the patient and including a plurality of connectors, each connector having a distal end and including an upstanding wall spaced from the distal end, the upstanding wall projecting from said connector; and

    a retaining strap cooperating with the plurality of connectors to define a catheter-receiving passageway configured to receive a portion of the catheter with the proximal and distal sections projecting outwardly therefrom,said retaining strap comprising an elastomeric body and a plurality of lobes, with the body being elastically stretched when the catheter portion is received in the passageway wherein the catheter is gripped and thereby axially retained by the device, each lobe projecting towards the platform and engaging a respective upstanding wall at least when said retaining strap is cooperating with said plurality of connectors,said elastomeric body having a Shore A Durometer hardness in the range of about 40 to about 70.
