1. A sensor for the in vitro determination of the presence and/or level of glucose in a sample, the sensor comprising:
- a substrate comprising a plurality of depressions formed in response to an applied pressure thereon;
a working electrode disposed in one of the depressions, said one of the depressions also including a contact pad for electrical coupling with the working electrode, the contact pad configured to couple with a processing unit,wherein the sensor generates a signal associated with a physiological condition for processing by the processing unit based on the presence and/or level of glucose in a volume sample of about 1 microliter or less.

Abstract
A process for the manufacture of small sensors with reproducible surfaces, including electrochemical sensors. One process includes forming channels in the surface of a substrate and disposing a conductive material in the channels to form an electrode. The conductive material can also be formed on the substrate by other impact and non-impact methods. In a preferred embodiment, the method includes cutting the substrate to form a sensor having a connector portion and a transcutaneous portion, the two portions having edges that define one continuous straight line.

17. A glucose sensor, comprising:
-
a substrate including a plurality of depressions formed in response to an applied pressure on a surface of the substrate; and a working electrode on the substrate disposed in one of the depressions, each of the plurality of depressions formed on the substrate including a respective contact pad on the substrate, wherein one of the contact pads on the substrate is electrically coupled to the working electrode, and wherein the contact pads are configured to electrically couple with a processing unit; wherein the sensor generates a glucose related signal for processing by the processing unit when in fluid contact with a blood sample of about 1 microliter or less in volume. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20)
