System and method for managing emissions from diesel powered systems

1. A configurable powered system for controlling engine emissions of a power generating unit, said power generating unit including an engine operating on a plurality of fuel types, said system comprising:
- a processor carried on the power generating unit;
a plurality of operational input devices for a respective fuel tank for said plurality of fuel types, said operational input devices being coupled to said processor;
a plurality of end use devices including said plurality of fuel tanks for said plurality of fuel types on the power generating unit controlled by the processor;
a configuration input device in communication with the processor for generating a respective configuration signal indicative of each of a particular location of the power generating unit along a predetermined course comprising a mission; and
wherein said processor is responsive to said operational input devices and configuration signals for generating at least one set of control signals to said end use devices to limit at least one of the total engine emissions of said plurality of fuel types, the total fuel efficiency of said plurality of fuel types, the total output power of said engine, a time of arrival for said power generating unit over said predetermined course, and a combination thereof, to a respective stored engine emission profile, stored engine efficiency profile, stored output power profile, and time of arrival restriction for each configuration signal indicative of each particular location of said power generating unit along said predetermined course comprising said mission.

Abstract
A configurable diesel powered system is provided for controlling engine emissions of a diesel-fueled power generating unit. The diesel-fueled power generating unit includes an engine operating on at least one fuel type. The system includes a plurality of operational input devices coupled with a processor to generate operational input signals to the processor. A plurality of end use devices include fuel tanks for each respective fuel type and are controlled by the processor to control the engine emissions. A configuration input device in communication with the processor generates a respective configuration signal for each particular location along the predetermined course comprising a mission. The processor is responsive to the operational input devices and configuration signals to generate a set of control signals to the fuel tanks to limit the total engine emissions of all fuel types to a respective stored engine emission profile for each configuration signal for each particular location along the predetermined course comprising the mission.

26. A configurable powered system for controlling operating characteristics of a power generating unit, said power generating unit including an engine operating on a plurality of fuel types, said system comprising:

a processor carried on the power generating unit; a plurality of operational input devices including sensors for a respective fuel tank for said plurality of fuel types; a plurality of end use devices including said plurality of fuel tanks for each respective fuel type on the power generating unit controlled by the processor for controlling said operating characteristics to correspond to at least one operating characteristic profile; a configuration input device in communication with the processor for generating a respective configuration signal indicative of each of a particular location of the power generating unit along a predetermined course, said configuration signal different from operational signals for transmission to the processor; wherein said processor is responsive to said operational input devices and configuration signals for generating at least one set of control signals to said end use devices to limit at least one of the operating characteristics of said plurality of fuel types, a time of arrival for said power generating unit along said predetermined course, and a combination thereof to a respective stored operating characteristics profile and time of arrival restriction for each configuration signal indicative of each particular location of said power generating unit along said predetermined course comprising a mission. - View Dependent Claims (27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32)
