Abstract

A patient support includes a base, a patient support surface supported by the base, an electrically powered device, and a rechargeable power storage device for powering the electrically powered device. Further, the patient support includes a receiving coil that is electrically coupled to the rechargeable power supply for inductive coupling with a transmitting coil, the receiving coil for recharging the rechargeable power supply when the receiving coil is inductively coupled to the transmitting coil.

Claims

1. A method of powering a patient support in vehicle comprising:

providing a patient support;

mounting a patient support based rechargeable power supply at the patient support;

providing a patient support based recharging circuit;

electrically coupling the patient support based recharging circuit to the patient support based rechargeable power supply; and

wirelessly transmitting power to the patient support based recharging circuit to thereby recharge the patient support based rechargeable power supply at the patient support.

2. The method according to claim 1,

providing a patient support fastening system;

mounting a vehicle based transmitting circuit in a vehicle;

and

wirelessly transmitting power to the patient support based recharging circuit from the vehicle based transmitting circuit when the patient support is loaded into the vehicle and at the patient support fastening system to thereby recharge the patient support based rechargeable power supply at the patient support.

3. The method according to claim 2, further comprising generating data at the patient support, and inductively transmitting the data off the patient support.

4. The method according to claim 3, wherein said inductively transmitting the data includes inductively transmitting the data to the vehicle.

The method according to claim 2, further comprising providing the vehicle with a vehicle based power supply, locating the patient support fastening system in the vehicle, and wirelessly transmitting power to the patient support based recharging circuit from the vehicle based power supply of the vehicle through the vehicle based transmitting circuit when the patient support is in a selected position in the vehicle to thereby recharge the patient support based rechargeable power supply at the patient support.

6. The method according to claim 5, further comprising wirelessly transmitting power to the patient support based recharging circuit when the patient support is secured in the vehicle with the patient support fastening system.

7. The method of powering a patient support fastening system according to claim 2, further comprising selectively loading or unloading the patient support with the patient support fastening system.

The method of powering a patient support according to claim 1, further comprising providing a vehicle with a vehicle based power supply, loading the patient support in the vehicle, and wirelessly transmitting power to the patient support based recharging circuit from the vehicle based power supply of the vehicle when the patient support is loaded in the vehicle to thereby recharge the patient support based rechargeable power supply at the patient support.

The method of powering a patient support according to claim 8, further comprising loading the patient support in the vehicle with a loading and unloading device, the loading and unloading device having a loading and unloading device based rechargeable power supply electrically coupled to a loading and unloading device based recharging circuit, and further wirelessly transmitting power to the loading and unloading device based recharging circuit of the loading and unloading device from the vehicle based power supply of the vehicle when the loading and unloading device is in a preselected configuration to thereby recharge the loading and unloading device based rechargeable power supply at the loading and unloading device.

10. The method according to claim 1, further comprising generating data at the patient support, and inductively transmitting the data off the patient support.

11. The method according to claim 10, wherein said inductively transmitting the data includes inductively transmitting the data to a handheld device.
