1. A radio transmitter comprising:
- a translational loop operable to receive a baseband/low IF signal and to up-convert the baseband/low IF signal to produce a Radio Frequency (RF) signal; and
a calibration module coupled to the translational loop and operable to perform open loop calibration on the translational loop by;
disconnecting a feed forward path of the translational loop at a disconnection point;
applying an open-loop control voltage to a first component of the translational loop at the disconnection point;
determining an open loop gain offset of the translational loop while applying the open-loop control voltage; and
applying the open loop gain offset to a second component of the translational loop.

A method for calibrating a phase locked loop begins by determining a gain offset of a voltage controlled oscillator of the phase locked loop. The processing then continues by adjusting current of a charge pump of the phase locked loop based on the gain offset.
