1. A low-emissivity coating on a substrate, the coating consisting essentially of, in order outward from the substrate:

  • a) a first dielectric layer;

    b) a first nucleation layer;

    c) a first Ag layer;

    d) a first absorbing barrier layer comprising an oxide of nickel and chromium, wherein the first barrier layer comprises about 15 to 60 atomic percent oxygen;

    e) a second dielectric layer;

    f) a second nucleation layer;

    g) a second Ag layer;

    h) a second absorbing barrier layer;

    i) a third dielectric layer; and

    j) optionally, a topcoat layerwherein the coating has a visible transmission of less than about 69%.
