1. A method of fabricating an AC light emitting device, comprising:

  • forming an initial first semiconductor layer of a first conductivity type, an initial second semiconductor layer of a second conductivity type that is opposite to the first conductivity type, and an initial active layer that is disposed between the initial first semiconductor layer and the initial second semiconductor layer, on a substrate;

    patterning the initial second semiconductor layer, the initial active layer, and the initial first semiconductor layer, to form a plurality of light emitting cells, each including first semiconductor layer, an active layer disposed on the first semiconductor layer, and a second semiconductor layer disposed directly on the active layer;

    patterning the second semiconductor layers, to form a photonic crystal structure in the second semiconductor layers; and

    forming metallic wirings electrically connecting the light emitting cells with one another,wherein the photonic crystal structure is formed in only the second semiconductor layers.
