1. A surgical stapler, comprising:
- a pair of opposing jaws including a staple cartridge and an anvil, each jaw defining an opposing facing surface with respect to the other jaw and defining a periphery, at least one jaw of the pair of jaws including at least two projections integrally formed with and extending from at least one of the opposing facing surfaces, the at least two projections disposed within an interior of the periphery of the opposing facing surface of the at least one jaw; and
a buttress material releasably secured within the interior of the periphery of the opposing facing surface of the at least one jaw, the buttress material including at least one recess for receipt of a respective one of the at least two projections, wherein the at least two projections facilitate securement of the buttress material to the at least one jaw.

Abstract
A surgical stapler is provided having a pair of jaws including a staple containing cartridge and an anvil. Buttress material is releasable affixed to the staple containing cartridge and the anvil. One of the jaws includes a pair of longitudinal projections at a first end of the jaw and configured to frictionally engage corresponding slots in a first end the buttress material. One of the jaws includes a post at a second end of the jaw. The buttress material includes a hole in a second end of the buttress material for receipt of the post.

a pair of opposing jaws including a staple cartridge and an anvil, each jaw defining an opposing facing surface with respect to the other jaw and defining a periphery, at least one jaw of the pair of jaws including at least two projections integrally formed with and extending from at least one of the opposing facing surfaces, the at least two projections disposed within an interior of the periphery of the opposing facing surface of the at least one jaw; and a buttress material releasably secured within the interior of the periphery of the opposing facing surface of the at least one jaw, the buttress material including at least one recess for receipt of a respective one of the at least two projections, wherein the at least two projections facilitate securement of the buttress material to the at least one jaw. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)

9. A jaw assembly for use with a surgical instrument, the jaw assembly comprising:

a pair of jaws including a staple cartridge defining a plurality of rows of staple retaining rockets in a tissue contacting surface thereof and an anvil defining a plurality of rows of staple clinching pockets in a tissue contacting surface thereof, each of the pair of jaws having a proximal portion and a distal portion, the plurality of rows of staple retaining pockets and staple clinching pockets each defining outer-most lateral side edges, at least one of the jaws including at least one projection extending from the tissue contacting surface near the proximal portion of the at least one jaw and at least one projection extending from the tissue contacting surface near the distal portion of the at least one jaw, wherein each projection is located within the outer-most lateral side edges defined by the staple retaining pockets and the staple clinching pockets; and a buttress material overlying the tissue contacting surface and being releasably affixed to the at least one jaw, the buttress material including at least one recess for receipt of the at least two projections. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
