1. A food intake restriction system for forming a restriction in a patient'"'"'s gastro-intestinal tract and non-invasively communicating pressure data regarding the restriction to an external monitor, the system comprising:

  • a food intake restriction device adapted to be implanted to form a restriction in a patient'"'"'s gastro-intestinal tract;

    an implanted port connected to the restriction device, said implanted port comprising a self-sealing septum which is penetrable by an external needle and will seal upon withdraw of said needle, the port and the restriction device containing a working fluid for affecting the size of the restriction in the gastro-intestinal tract; and

    a pressure sensing system in communication with the working fluid and disposed within the implanted port for making periodic measurements the pressure of the working fluid in the implanted port and restriction device at various intervals and transmitting pressure measurement data to the external monitor.
