1. A computer system for predicting current tornado activity comprising:
- (a) a processor that receives model data from a meteorological data source for a first time period and a second time period indicative of tornadic activity, wherein said first time period is prior to the current time and said second time period is subsequent to the current time;
(b) wherein said processor generates a first time period model data tornado potential index based on forecast data and a second time period model data tornado potential index based on forecast data using said model data;
(c) wherein said processor generates a current time model data tornado potential index by combining said first time period model data tornado potential index and said second time period model data tornado potential index;
(d) wherein said processor receives radar data indicative of tornadic activity from a radar source;
(e) wherein said processor generates a radar data tornado potential index using weighted values assigned to different components of said radar data, wherein said components of said radar data comprise, a tornado vortex signature (TVS) data value, a mesocyclonic activity (MESO) data value, a precipitation and intensity (dBz) data value, a vertically integrated liquid (VIL) data value, and hail size data value;
(f) wherein said processor generates a composite tornado potential index using weighted values of said current time model data tornado potential index and said radar data tornado potential index; and
(g) wherein said processor stores said composite tornado potential index in a computer readable data storage media located within said computer system.

The present system and method detects and predicts potential tornadic activity. In one aspect, the invention predicts potential tornadic activity based on radar data. In another aspect, the invention predicts potential tornadic activity based on an integrated and composite product based on model forecast data and radar data by generating a composite tornado potential index using weighted values of the model forecast data and the radar data.

7. A computer system for predicting tornadic activity comprising:

(a) a processor communicating with a meteorological model data source to receive model data and a radar data source to receive radar data; (b) said processor configured to process a subset of said model data to create a model data potential tornado index based on forecast data and a subset of said radar data to create a radar data potential tornado index by assigning weighted values to components of said radar data, wherein said components of said radar data comprise, a tornado vortex signature (TVS) data value, a mesocyclonic activity (MESO) data value, a precipitation and intensity (dBz) data value, a vertically integrated liquid (VIL) data value, and hail size data value; (c) said processor further configured to process said model data potential tornado index and said radar data potential tornado potential index to create a model data/radar data composite index by using weighted values of said model data potential tornado index and radar data potential tornado potential index; and (d) a computer readable data storage media that stores said model data/radar data composite index on said computer system. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10)

(a) a processor that receives radar data comprising tornado indicator data from a radar source; (b) wherein said processor assigns weighted values to different components of said tornado indicator data, wherein said components of said tornado indicator data comprise a tornado vortex signature (TVS) data value, a mesocyclonic activity (MESO) data value, a precipitation and intensity (dBz) data value, a vertically integrated liquid (VIL) data value, and hail size data value; (c) wherein said processor generates a radar data potential tornado index by comparing said weighted values of different components of tornado indicator data; and (d) wherein said processor stores said radar tornado potential index in a computer readable data storage media. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
