1. A prosthetic limb for instantaneously converting residual bone rotation into rotation of a portion of the prosthetic limb comprising:
- a permanent magnet having a magnetic field for mounting adjacent to the distal end of the residual bone;
a plurality of magnetic sensors disposed about the magnet for generating data indicative of changes in the magnetic field produced by rotation of the residual bone and magnet;
a motor driven prosthetic rotator for rotating the limb portion, anda microprocessor programmed to analyze the data indicative of the changes in the magnetic field and to control the prosthetic rotator in response to the data to thereby convert the residual bone rotation into rotation of the limb portion.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for improving the control of prosthetic limb rotation in amputees in which a permanent magnet is implanted into the distal end of a residual bone and the bone rotation is sensed from movement of the magnetic field of the magnet and used to effect corresponding rotation of the prosthetic limb.
