Abstract

Methods, systems, devices, and computer program products include positioning single-use radiation sensor patches that have adhesive means onto the skin of a patient to evaluate the radiation dose delivered during a treatment session. The sensor patches are configured to be minimally obtrusive and operate without the use of externally extending power cords or lead wires.

Claims

1. A method of fabricating radiation sensor patches, comprising:

providing a plurality of radiation-sensitive elements in a high-density pattern on a unitary sheet of substrate material, wherein the radiation-sensitive elements comprise semiconductor components;

calibrating at least one of the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements; and

separating the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements from the unitary sheet of substrate material into a plurality of discrete radiation sensor patches.

A method according to claim 1, wherein the unitary sheet comprises perforations extending about a perimeter of each dosimeter in a designed perimeter shape to facilitate separation of the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements into the plurality of discrete radiation sensor patches, and wherein the unitary sheet is provided with the perforations before the calibrating step.

3. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

applying an adhesive to the discrete radiation sensor patches so that the respective radiation sensor patch may be releasably adhered to a patient'"'"'s skin, and wherein the patch is configured for use on an oncology patient for measuring therapeutic doses of radiation administered to the patient.

4. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

applying a coverlay with a primary surface configured to releasably adhere the separated discrete radiation sensor patch to a patient'"'"'s skin to at least one of the separated discrete radiation sensor patches, wherein the patches comprise electrical traces that extend from the radiation sensitive element to an externally accessible region for engaging a reader, and wherein the patch is configured for use on an oncology patient for measuring therapeutic doses of radiation administered to the patient.

5. A method according to claim 1, further comprising sterilizing the radiation sensor patches for medical use.

6. A method according to claim 1, further comprising pre-dosing the radiation-sensitive elements while held by the unitary sheet before or after the calibrating step and before the separating step.

7. A method according to claim 1, wherein the high density pattern is has a plurality of adjacent rows and columns of semiconductor radiation sensitive elements of at least 6 elements per 9 inch square area on the radiation sheet.

8. A method according to claim 1, wherein the unitary sheet holds between about 30 to about 100 radiation sensitive elements aligned in side by side rows.

9. A method of fabricating radiation sensor patches, comprising:

providing a plurality of radiation-sensitive elements in a high-density pattern on a unitary sheet of substrate material;

calibrating at least one of the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements; and

separating the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements from the unitary sheet of substrate material into a plurality of discrete radiation sensor patches,

wherein calibrating at least one of the plurality comprises calibrating the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements simultaneously utilizing a calibration line provided on the unitary sheet that electrically couples the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements.

10. A method of fabricating radiation sensor patches, comprising:

providing a plurality of radiation-sensitive elements in a high-density pattern on a unitary sheet of substrate material;

calibrating at least one of the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements using pre-irradiation threshold voltage data;

programming a memory storage device provided on at least one of the radiation-sensitive elements with radiation calibration data obtained from the calibrating step; and

separating the plurality of radiation-sensitive elements from the unitary sheet of substrate material into a plurality of discrete radiation sensor patches.
