1. A repeater comprising:

  • a forward link circuitry configured to receive communication signals received at the repeater from a base station, the forward link circuitry configured to amplify a first portion of the received communication signals to transmit the amplified communication signals to mobile stations;

    a repeater phone including a first input coupled to the forward link circuitry to receive a second portion of the received communication signals received at the repeater from the base station, wherein the repeater phone includes a power control circuitry configured to generate a gain control signal in response to the received second portion of the received communication signals received at the repeater from the base station, the repeater phone further including a first output configured to transmit the gain control signal;

    a controller in communication with the repeater phone and a variable gain element, wherein the controller is configured to receive the gain control signal and generate information indicative of the gain control signal;

    a reverse link circuitry including the variable gain element, wherein the variable gain element is configured to receive the information indicative of the gain control signal and to adjust reverse link gain of the repeater based on the information indicative of the gain control signal.
