First Claim
1. A method of generating an association between a software object and a position on a printed surface, the method including the steps of:
- sensing, by a sensing device placed on the position on the printed surface coded data at the position on the printed surface, the sensed coded data at the position on the printed surface encoding an identity of the surface and the position of the sensed coded data relative to the printed surface;
generating, by the sensing device, indicating data using the sensed coded data, the indicating data being indicative of the identity of the printed surface and the position of the sensed coded data relative to the surface;
receiving, by a computer system, the indicating data from the sensing device;
identifying by the computer system, using the indicating data, the identity of the printed surface and the position of the sensed coded data relative to the printed surface;
identifying by the computer system the software object; and
generating by the computer system an association between the identity of the printed surface, the position of the sensed coded data relative to the printed surface, and the software object.

Abstract
A method of generating an association between a software object and a position on a surface is disclosed. The method starts by sensing, by a sensing device placed on the position on the surface coded data at the position on the surface. The coded data at the position on the surface encodes an identity of the surface and the position of the coded data relative to the surface. The sensing device then generates indicating data using the sensed coded data. The indicating data is indicative of the identity of the surface and the position of the sensed coded data relative to the surface. Upon receiving the indicating data from the sensing device by a computer system, the computer system identifies, using the indicating data, the identity of the surface and the position of the sensed coded data relative to the surface. The computer system also identifies the software object, and then generates an association between the identity of the surface, the position of the sensed coded data relative to the surface, and the software object.
