1. A method of determining a status of an electronic device, comprising:

  • determining by the electronic device an operating status thereof;

    transmitting the operating status by the electronic device by modulating an acoustic signal;

    receiving by a computer information-encoding acoustic signals generated by the electronic device;

    analyzing said acoustic signals, automatically by the computer, to determine the status associated with said electronic device responsive to said information, wherein said status is indicative of a characteristic of said electronic device encoded in said acoustic signals; and

    transmitting by the computer a signal indicative of said status.
