User customized news content delivery using a sensing device able to sense coded data
First Claim
1. A method of providing news to a user via print media having printed news content and a plurality of printed coded data tags, wherein at least some of the coded data tags and the news content are coincident on the print media, each coded data tag containing:
- a plurality of target elements and coded data identifying the identity of the news content and a respective tag location on the print media, the method comprising the steps of;
using an optically imaging pen to capture an image of at least one of the coded data tags, when the pen is placed in an operative position relative to the print media, and to process the images so as to;
(i) identify a coded data tag from the captured image;
(ii) identify perspective-distorted target elements in the tag and calculate a perspective transform, wherein the perspective transform is determined using the imaged target elements which are perspective-distorted due to a tilt of the pen;
(iii) decode at least some of the coded data contained within the tag to determine the identity of the news content and a tag location;
(iv) use the perspective transform and the tag location to determine a nib position of the pen, said nib position being different than said tag location; and
(v) generate indicating data including the identity of the news content and the nib position of the pen; and
providing news to the user, said news being identified using the indicating data.

Abstract
A method for providing news content includes receiving, through a computer system, news content from a sender, and printing the news content in a document (print media) including coded data, the coded data including an indication of the identity of the news content and at least one reference point on the document. The method also includes using a sensing device to capture images of at least some of the coded data, when the sensing device is placed in an operative position relative to the document. Indicating data generated by the sensing device is then received in the computer system. The indicating data includes information regarding the identity of the news content and at least one action of the sensing device in relation to the document using at least some of the coded data.
