1. A light emitting diode (LED) device comprising:

  • a non-linear resistive polymer composition comprising a concentration of nano-dimensioned particles that individually have an aspect ratio that is greater than 10;

    1;

    wherein said composition is (i) insulative in absence of any voltage that exceeds a characteristic voltage level, and (ii) conductive with application of a voltage that exceeds the characteristic voltage level; and

    wherein the polymer composition is positioned to protect the LED against transient electrical events.
