1. A method of enabling a user to instruct a computer system to perform an operation by interacting with graphical information and coded data printed on a first interface surface using a sensing device which generates indicating data indicative of the operation by sensing the coded data, the method comprising the steps of:

  • receiving, in the computer system, the indicating data from the sensing device;

    performing, in the computer system, the operation indicated by the indicating data; and

    printing, in response to performing the operation, a second interface surface with graphical information relating to the performed operation and coded data, the coded data comprising a plurality of marks positioned relative to a predetermined pattern, the predetermined pattern having a rotationally invariant structure and an orientation target structure for allowing rotation of the coded data relative to the sensing device to be determined.
