1. An apparatus for recording potentials on a body surface comprising:

  • a plurality of wireless electrodes, each electrode capable of transmitting one or more of a measured voltage or an electrode status over a relatively unique wireless link;

    a receiver configured to receive over the wireless link one or more of the measured voltage and/or status transmitted by the respective electrodes;

    wherein two or more of the plurality of electrodes belong to at least one cluster, are physically disconnected, and are in wireless communication with each other; and

    the receiver is further configured to determine whether a first electrode in the at least one cluster is functioning properly and, if the first electrode is not functioning properly, receiving a signal from the first electrode that is indicative of a status of the first electrode and selecting a second electrode in the cluster that is functioning properly to replace the first electrode.
