Method and system for analyzing drug adverse effects
First Claim
1. A computer readable medium containing computer readable instructions for analyzing the risks of adverse effects resulting from the use of at least one substance of interest, said computer readable instructions comprising instructions for:
- prompting a user to select on a computing device at least one substance of interest;
displaying on said computing device information relating to effects of the substance of interest following administration to a patient;
presenting on said computing device one or more filter parameters for selection by the user; and
submitting said substance of interest and selected filter parameters to at least one data mining engine selected from the group consisting of a correlator engine, a proportional analyzer engine, and a comparator engine;
wherein the correlator engine measures degrees of associations among pairs of values using multidimensional vector analysis;
wherein the proportional analyzer engine analyzes the frequency of reactions to a substance of interest compared to the frequency of similar reactions to other substances;
wherein the comparator engine measures the similarities and differences between pre-market reactions to substance of interest and post-market reactions to said substance of interest;
displaying on said computing device the analytic results from the data mining engine.

Abstract
A system for analyzing the risks of adverse effect resulting from the use of a drug comprises a selector for identifying at least one drug, a profiler for selecting from multiple profiles related to the safety of the drug, using at least one filter; at least one data mining engine; and an output device for displaying the analytic results from the data mining engine. Preferably, the at least one data mining engine is selected from (1) a proportional analysis engine to assess deviations in a set of reactions to the drug; (2) a comparator to measure the reactions to the drug against a user-defined backdrop, and (3) a correlator to look for correlated signal characteristics in drug/reaction/demographic information; and an output device whereby a user can receive analytic.
