an antiseptic indicator comprising a surface layer including a micropattern configured to selectively reflect one or more wavelengths of light, the micropattern including a plurality of grooves and ridges having a groove spacing between about 0.1 μ
m and about 0.7 μ
m, the antiseptic indicator located at the access site and configured to change from a first appearance to a second appearance upon exposure to an antiseptic agent, and wherein the antiseptic indicator substantially resumes the first appearance after a period of time.

The access device includes an indicator for providing a visual indication when the access device has been exposed to an antiseptic agent.
