1. In a glucose sensing system comprising a glucose sensor configured for producing an output representative of glucose concentration in a host and processing circuitry configured to process the output, a method for processing data from the output, the method comprising:

  • generating at least one data stream from the glucose sensor output;

    detecting a severity of a signal artifact in the at least one data stream based at least in part on a data stream content; and

    generating, using a signal estimation module, at least one estimated data stream or data stream portion for transmission or display, wherein the at least one estimated data stream is estimated based on one of a plurality of predetermined estimation algorithms, wherein the one of a plurality of predetermined estimation algorithms used for the at least one estimated data stream is selected from the plurality of predetermined estimation algorithms based on a comparison of the severity of the detected signal artifact against one or more predetermined thresholds.
