1. A method comprising:

  • receiving, from a message source and at a notification system, a first electronic communication of a first type;

    identifying, using the notification system, the message source of the first electronic communication;

    accessing, from electronic storage, subscription data of a recipient of notifications from the notification system;

    determining, using the notification system, whether the recipient is subscribed to receive notifications for electronic communications originated by the message source based on the identified message source of the first electronic communication and the accessed subscription data of the recipient; and

    based on a determination that the recipient is subscribed to receive notifications for electronic communications originated by the message source;

    reconfiguring, using the notification system, the first electronic communication of the first type into a second electronic communication of a second type that is addressed to the recipient, the second type of electronic communication being different than the first type of electronic communication; and

    sending, using the notification system, the second electronic communication of the second type to the recipient.
