1. A method of treating congestive failure and myocardial ischemia, the method comprising:

  • positioning a fluid pressure generating device in a pleural cavity and adjacent to a lung within a chest of a patient, the fluid pressure generative device comprising;

    (a) a housing having a first housing portion and a second housing portion;

    (b) a fluid disposed within an interior volume of the housing; and

    (c) a motor disposed within the interior volume of the housing;

    coupling the fluid pressure generating device to a blood pumping device positioned in the patient; and

    actuating the motor to move the first and second housing portions relative to one another such that the fluid is pumped from the interior volume of the housing to the blood pumping device, thereby driving the blood pumping device.
