1. A composition comprising:
- a metal chelate consisting essentially of;
a iron(II);
a glycine chelated to the iron(II); and
an aspartic acid chelated to the iron(II), wherein the metal chelate has a solubility from about 2.25 M to about 5 M;
a malic acid or salt thereof in an amount of from about 7% to about 8% by weight of the composition to improve solubility of the metal chelate in water;
a succinic acid or salt thereof in an amount of from about 7% to about 10% by weight of the composition to improve intestinal absorption of the metal chelate; and
with the metal chelate in an amount of from about 77% to about 84.5% by weight of the composition.

Abstract
Mixed amino acid/mineral compounds can include at least two amino acids bound to a central mineral atom. The combination of amino acids can be tailored to provide improved solubility, absorption, and/or bioavailability of the mineral. Optionally, organic acids can be bound to the mineral or combined with the chelate in order to further improve solubility, absorption, and/or bioavailability. Compositions including one or more mixed amino acid/mineral compounds can be included in therapeutic regimens for indications in which the mineral may treat and/or prevent a condition or symptom.
