1. A fiberoptic patient health multi-parameter monitoring system, comprising:
- an optical sensing fiber cable comprising a plurality of predetermined sensing modules; and
each sensing module comprising at least one diffraction grating having a corresponding resonant wavelength that shifts in response to predetermined external stimuli to provide spectral signatures corresponding to patient physiological parameters such that a plurality of dynamically changing patient physiological parameters are simultaneously represented by the spectral signatures associated with the plurality of predetermined sensing modules, each sensing module further comprising at least one fiber optic ambient temperature calibration element exhibiting a baseline wavelength shift at ambient temperature, wherein at least one diffraction grating within the sensing module is a calibrated diffraction grating based on the baseline wavelength shift of a corresponding ambient temperature calibration element within the sensing module.

Abstract
A patient monitoring system includes a plurality of diffraction gratings integrated along the length of an optical fiber, wherein the optical fiber and each grating are together configured to alter either the effective refractive index or grating periodicity of the respective grating at its corresponding location along the fiber in response to at least one desired external stimulus.
