1. A method of responding to a use by a user of controlled copyright content of another, including:

  • detecting, in response to the use by the user of the controlled copyright content owned by a content owner, the use of the controlled copyright content including a context of the use of the controlled copyright content, wherein the context comprises one or more of the following;

    compliance information associated with the use of the controlled copyright content, technical information associated with the use of the controlled copyright content, and reputation information;

    automatically determining using a processor whether the detected use is a non-compliant use of the controlled copyright content based in part on the context of the use and one or more usage rules specified by the content owner;

    automatically determining using a processor, in response to a non-compliant use of the controlled copyright content, an engagement action for engaging the user of the controlled copyright content in the detected use based at least in part on a prespecified rule indicating how to respond to a use of the controlled copyright content; and

    automatically initiating the engagement action, including sending an appropriate communication to the user of the controlled content in the detect use where the content of the communication is based on the content owner specified usage rules;

    wherein the engagement action includes automatically notifying the user of the controlled copyright content of the user'"'"'s non-compliant use of the controlled copyright content and requesting for modification of matching content that uses the controlled copyright content; and

    wherein the communication to the user is performed anonymously.
