1. A stent delivery device for delivering a stent to a treatment site in a body lumen, the device comprising:
- a catheter shaft having a proximal end and a distal end;
an expandable member coupled with the catheter shaft near the distal end;
a stent positionable over the expandable member in an unexpanded configuration and being radially expandable to an expanded configuration, the stent comprising a plurality of stent segments which are axially separable from each other while the stent segments are in the unexpanded configuration and positioned over the expandable member; and
a constraining sheath coupled to the catheter shaft and positionable to engage a remainder group of the stent segments, wherein the remainder group comprises at least one stent segment, wherein a selected group of stent segments is unconstrained to allow expansion thereof at the treatment site while the remainder group of stent segments is constrained from and axially separable from the selected group of stent segments to form an axial gap between the remainder group of stent segments and the selected group of stent segments, wherein the selected group of stent segments comprises at least two stent segments and is released from the delivery device so that the at least two stent segments are expandable simultaneously by the expandable member while the expandable member carries the remainder group of stent segments in the unexpanded configuration.

Abstract
Blood vessels and other body lumens are stented using multiple, discreet stent structures. Stent structures may be balloon expandable or self-expanding and are delivered by a delivery catheter which is repositioned to spaced-apart delivery sights. By coating the stents with particular biologically active substances, hyperplasia within and between the implanted stents can be inhibited. An exemplary delivery catheter comprises a catheter body having both a pusher rod for advancing the stents relative to a sheath and a reciprocatable delivery catheter for implanting the stents.
