Abstract

Disclosed is a stent comprising a bioabsorbable polymeric scaffolding; and a plurality of depots in at least a portion of the scaffolding, wherein the plurality of depots comprise a bioabsorbable material, wherein the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable polymer of the scaffolding is faster than the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable material of the depots.

Claims

1. A stent comprising:

a bioabsorbable polymeric scaffolding; and

a plurality of depots in at least a portion of the scaffolding,

wherein the plurality of depots comprise a bioabsorbable material, the bioabsorbable material being disposed within the depots; and

wherein a surface of the scaffolding outside of the depots is free of the bioabsorbable material; and

wherein the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable polymer of the scaffolding is faster than the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable material of the depots.

2. The stent according to claim 1, wherein the stent further comprises an anti-proliferative agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, or a mixture thereof.

3. The stent according to claim 2, wherein the anti-inflammatory or the antiproliferative agent is included within the bioabsorbable material of the depots.

4. The stent according to claim 1, wherein the faster degradation of the bioabsorbable material of the scaffolding allows the scaffolding to degrade away prior to the bioabsorbable material of the depot.

5. The stent according to claim 1, further comprising a coating, the coating comprising an additional bioabsorbable material,

wherein the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the additional bioabsorbable material of the coating differs from the degradation rate of the bioabsorbable polymer of the scaffolding and differs from the degradation rate of the bioabsorbable material of the depots.

6. The stent of claim 1, wherein the bioabsorbable material of the depots is not above the surface of the scaffolding.

9. A method treating a body lumen, the method comprising:

providing a stent according to claim 1; and

deploying the stent at a treatment area in a body lumen.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the stent includes as anti-proliferative agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, or a mixture thereof.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein an anti-inflammatory agent is mixed or dispersed within the scaffolding of the stent.

12. The method according to claim 9, wherein an anti-inflammatory agent is delivered from the scaffolding and suppresses inflammation of the lumen during all or a majority of the degradation of the scaffolding.

13. The method according to claim 9, wherein an anti-inflammatory agent and an anti-proliferative agent are delivered from at least a portion of the depots.

14. The method according to claim 9, wherein upon deployment of the stent in the treatment area, the scaffolding substantially or completely degrades from the treatment area before the material in the depots substantially or completely degrades.

15. The method according to claim 9, wherein the material of the depots delivers a drug to the lumen during degradation of the scaffolding and after substantial or complete degradation of the scaffolding.

16. The method according to claim 9, wherein the material of the depots becomes endothelialized in a wall of the lumen and delivers a drug after the scaffolding has substantially or completely degraded.

7. A stent comprising:

a bioabsorbable polymeric scaffolding; and

a plurality of depots in at least a portion of the scaffolding,

wherein the plurality of depots is filled with a bioabsorbable material, and wherein a surface of the scaffolding outside of the depots is free of coating material; and

wherein the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable polymer of the scaffolding is faster than the degradation rate of all or substantially all of the bioabsorbable material of the depots.

8. The stent of claim 7, wherein the bioabsorbable material of the depots is not above the surface of the scaffolding.
