1. An adapter for removable mounting to an appliance having a cabinet and a door having a front surface and a peripheral edge, and for removably holding a portable electronic device having a display, the adapter comprising:

  • a receptacle defining an interior, a peripheral edge, and an access opening in the peripheral edge providing access to the interior; and

    an articulated support frame supporting the electronic device and selectively translating and pivoting the electronic device relative to the receptacle between a first orientation where the display is received within the interior of the receptacle and hidden from view, and a second orientation where the display is outside of the receptacle and the display overlies the door;

    wherein the articulated support frame is coupled to the receptacle and is at least partially located within the interior such that the electronic device is laterally translated from the interior through the access opening to move the display outside the receptacle and then pivoted to overlie the door;

    wherein the articulated support frame pivots the electronic device about a first axis and a second axis which is parallel to and offset from the first axis to move the electronic device to the second orientation.
