1. A physiological monitoring system configured to receive one or more intensity signals representative of at least one physiological characteristic of body tissue and determine a resulting value indicative of the at least one physiological characteristic, the physiological monitoring system comprising:
- an input configured to receive one or more intensity signals representative of a physiological characteristic of body tissue; and
a signal processing device configured to utilize the intensity signals with a first calculation technique to determine at least a first plurality of preliminary values representative of the physiological characteristic of body tissue and a second calculation technique, different from the first calculation technique, to determine at least a second plurality of preliminary values representative of the physiological characteristic of body tissue, and further configured to utilize at least one of the first and second calculation techniques to determine a resulting plurality of values indicative of the at least one physiological characteristic, the processor further configured to adjustably smooth the plurality of resulting values indicative of the at least one physiological characteristic to determine one or more output values indicative of the at least one physiological characteristic.

11. A physiological monitoring system configured to determine a value indicative of a physiological parameter of a patient, the physiological monitoring system comprising:
-
an input configured to receive one or more intensity signals representative of a physiological characteristic of body tissue; and a signal processing device configured to determine a plurality of values representative of the physiological characteristic of body tissue from the one or more intensity signals, and further configured to adjustably smooth the plurality of values based on a confidence measurement to determine an output value indicative of the physiological characteristic, wherein if the confidence measure is high, the signal processing device is configured to speed up the adjustable smoothing by giving a higher weight to the newest measurement and wherein if a determination is made that the confidence measurement is low, the signal processing device is configured to slow down the adjustable smoothing by giving a higher weight to older measurements. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)
