An absorbent article wherein at least one part of this absorbent article comprises a pattern of at least one hydrophilic and at least one hydrophobic region wherein said at least one hydrophilic region and/or said at least one hydrophobic region are present as a coating on said part of the absorbent article, and wherein the at least one hydrophilic region is formed by a polyelectrolyte layer.
