1. A locating system, comprising:

  • a housing including a display;

    a pair of antenna arrays;

    means for mounting the antenna arrays to the housing in vertically spaced relation; and

    circuit means at least partially mounted in the housing and connected to the antenna arrays for sensing an electromagnetic signal emitted from a buried long conductor and determining a location and depth of the buried long conductor by measuring field strength and field angles, including means for indicating a pair of graphic symbols on the display representing a position of the system relative to the buried long conductor, a first one of the graphic symbols based on a first portion of the electromagnetic signal sensed by a first one of the antenna arrays, a second one of the graphic symbols based on a second portion of the electromagnetic signal sensed by a second one of the antenna array;

    wherein the first graphic symbol is a line that is displayed offset from a center the display in an amount proportional to a measured tilt of an electromagnetic field emanating from the buried long conductor.
