Card activated automated banking machine system and method
First Claim
1. Method comprising:
- (a) operating at least one processor associated with an automated banking machine in verifying that a display device is authorized to be used by the machine to carry out at least one financial transaction,wherein the machine includes at least one input device operable to receive user input to the machine,wherein the at least one input device includes at least one reader operable to read user data corresponding to at least one of a machine user and a financial account,wherein the at least one processor is operable to cause the machine to carry out a transaction involving a financial account responsive at least in part to computer-determined correspondence between user data read by the at least one reader and the financial account,wherein the verifying includes
(a1) operating the at least one processor independent of user input to the machine, to cause at least one first authentication signal to be sent to the display device, wherein the at least one first authentication signal includes first data;
(a2) subsequent to (a1), operating the at least one processor to receive at least one second authentication signal originating from the display device;
(a3) operating the at least one processor to analyze the at least one second authentication signal received in (a2); and
(a4) operating the at least one processor to determine responsive at least in part to the analysis in (a3), that the at least one second authentication signal includes second data that corresponds to a manipulation of the first data.

Abstract
A card actuated automated banking machine is operative to carry out financial transactions responsive to data included on user cards. The machine includes a user interface including a display. The user interface includes a card reader which is operative to read data on user cards which identify at least one of a user and a user'"'"'s financial accounts. A fascia of the machine includes a keypad through which users input confidential data. Covers prevent unauthorized persons from viewing confidential inputs to the keypad. Authorization signals assure that the display is operating in a manner that provides appropriate user instructions. A visual indicator is operative to indicate to a user that keypad inputs are being encrypted.

8. Method comprising:
-
(a) operating at least one processor associated with an automated banking machine that comprises a plurality of transaction function devices including a sheet dispenser and at least one data reader operable to read data corresponding to at least one of a machine user and a financial account, to cause at least one first signal to be sent to a display associated with the machine; and (b) subsequent to (a), operating the at least one processor to either; (b1) allow the display to be used by the machine to carry out at least one transaction function, responsive at least in part to both; (b1i) the at least one processor receiving at least one expected feedback signal, responsive at least in part to causing the at least one first signal to be sent in (a); and (b1ii) the at least one processor determining that the at least one expected feedback signal received in (bi1) is from a display that is authorized to operate with the machine; or (b2) prevent the display from being used by the machine to carry out the at least one transaction function, responsive at least in part to either; (b2i) the at least one processor not receiving the at least one expected feedback signal; or (b2ii) both; (b2iia) the at least one processor receiving the at least one expected feedback signal; and (b2iib) the at least one processor determining that the at least one expected feedback signal received in (b2iia) is not from a display authorized to operate with the machine. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)

16. Method comprising:
-
(a) operating at least one computer independent of user input to an automated banking machine, to cause at least one first authorization signal to be sent to a function component associated with the machine, wherein the at least one first authorization signal includes first data, wherein the machine includes at least one input device operable to receive user input to the machine, wherein the at least one input device includes at least one reader operable to read user data corresponding to a financial account, wherein the at least one computer is operable to cause the machine to carry out a financial transaction involving a financial account that corresponds to user data read by the at least one reader; (b) subsequent to (a), operating the at least one computer to receive at least one second authorization signal that originated from the function component; (c) operating the at least one computer to analyze the at least one second authorization signal received in (b); (d) operating the at least one computer responsive at least in part to (c), to determine that the at least one second authorization signal includes second data that corresponds to a function of the first data; and (e) operating the at least one computer responsive at least in part to (d), to verify that the function component is authorized for use in carrying out at least one financial transaction with the machine. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
