17. An article of footwear, comprising:
-
an upper and a sole; the upper including a gripping system configured to contact a ball; wherein the gripping system includes a first gripping member having a disk-like shape and a second gripping member disposed concentrically with the first gripping member; wherein the gripping system is positioned on the upper in a location corresponding to an area on a wearer'"'"'s foot where the force transfer between the foot and a ball in contact with the gripping system is optimized and evenly distributed; wherein a center point of the first gripping member is disposed on a top surface of the upper and located medial to a longitudinal axis of the article of footwear; wherein the gripping system extends centrally longitudinally from an area on the upper adjacent a throat opening which receives a user'"'"'s foot to an area on the upper corresponding to the position of a user'"'"'s toe when the article of footwear is worn by the user; wherein the gripping system extends laterally from a second area on the upper adjacent to a medial portion of a sole to terminate at a lateral side of the top surface of the upper; and wherein the first gripping member is disposed on the upper in an area corresponding to the position of a user'"'"'s metatarsal when the article of footwear is worn by the user. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25)

23. An article of footwear, comprising:
-
an upper; a gripping system on the upper, comprising a first disk-shaped gripping member and a plurality of arc-shaped gripping members concentric with the first disk-shaped gripping member; a first arc-shaped gripping member immediately adjacent the disk-shaped gripping member and forming a ring concentric with the disk-shaped gripping member; a second arc-shaped gripping member immediately adjacent to the first arc-shaped gripping member, the second arc-shaped gripping member terminating at a lateral boundary of the gripping system and at a medial boundary of the gripping system; and a third arc-shaped gripping member immediately adjacent the second arc-shaped gripping member, the third arc-shaped gripping member terminating at a lateral boundary of the gripping system and at a medial boundary of the gripping system; wherein the second and third arc-shaped gripping members are defined with an effective diameter that would, if not terminated at the boundaries, form respective rings concentric with the disk-like gripping member; wherein the gripping system is symmetrically arranged; and wherein the disk-like gripping member corresponds in position to the position of a user'"'"'s metatarsal when the article of footwear is worn by the user. - View Dependent Claims (24)
