1. A pulse oximetry system comprising:

  • an optical probe including light emitting elements and a light detecting element, said light detecting element configured to detect light emitted from the light emitting elements and attenuated by tissue of a patient, the light detector further configured to output a signal, the signal including a plurality of intensity signals indicative of the detected attenuated light, said signal comprising signal portions and noise portions; and

    a patient monitor comprising;

    a sensor port communicating with said optical probe to receive said signal; and

    a signal processor configured to determine an indication of correlation between at least two of the plurality of intensity signals and, based on the indication of correlation, determine whether to include one or more of the plurality of intensity signals in a determination of a physiological parameter, the signal processor further configured to execute a closed loop adaptive process using said intensity signals to determine an indication of a physiological parameter.
