1. A device for percutaneous insertion into a vasculature of a patient, the device comprising:

  • a guide member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending from the distal end toward the proximal end, wherein the distal end of the guide member includes a plurality of struts, the plurality of struts being movable between an open position and a closed position;

    a filter membrane attached to the plurality of struts, wherein the filter membrane is disposed within the lumen of the guide member and between the plurality of struts in the closed position and distal of the plurality of struts in the open position;

    a restraining member attached to at least one of the plurality of struts and surrounding the plurality of struts for restraining the plurality of struts in the closed position; and

    an actuating member for selectively unrestraining the restraining member from the plurality of struts, such that the plurality of struts may shift to the open position;

    wherein the restraining member is a portion of the filter membrane.
