1. A vascular filtration system for removing embolic material in a body fluid flowing within a vessel at a treatment site, comprising;

  • a delivery system comprising a delivery catheter having a push element and a filter retention sleeve extending distally of the push element, the filter retention sleeve defining a delivery lumen; and

    a filter element comprising a support frame, a flexible membrane and a tubular sleeve, the filter element disposed within the delivery lumen but not attached to the push element, wherein the support frame includes a pre-deployment collapsed state and a deployment expanded state,the filter element defines a proximal inlet opening and a plurality of distal outlet openings, the outlet openings allow the body fluid to flow through the filter element but retain embolic material within the filter element, and the inlet opening is larger than any of the outlet openings, andthe filter element, in the collapsed state within the delivery lumen, is configured to be pushed along a medical guidewire via the push element by advancement of the delivery catheter toward the treatment site.
