- receiving, at a detector for an iterative low-density parity-check coded multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex system, a multiple-input, multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplex signal;
generating a current a posteriori probability for the received signal based at least in part on a soft decisions based on a prior a posteriori probability and a soft channel estimate; and
decoding the current a posteriori probability using a belief propagation algorithm in order to generate soft bit information.

Also disclosed is an apparatus having a detector for a structured irregular LDPC-coded MIMO-OFDM system, where the detector is configured to use an iterative Recursive Least Squares-based data detection and channel estimation technique.
