Catheter device
First Claim
1. A kit for preparing a catheter for draining a bodily cavity, the kit comprising at least a first catheter section having a first fluid passage therein and a second catheter section having a second fluid passage therein, said first and second catheter sections being joined by a telescopic joint, said first catheter section having a proximal end portion intended for insertion into the human bladder, the sections arranged in a first mutual configuration wherein the first and second fluid passages are joined into one continuous substantially linear fluid passage and the sections together constitute a catheter having a fluid passageway of a length longer than the length of each individual section and having such a rigidity that the catheter is manipulatable for insertion of said proximal end portion of the first catheter section into the bladder by manipulation of said second catheter section, and in a second mutual configuration in which the first catheter section is telescopically received within said second catheter section in a substantially concentric arrangement.

Abstract
The present invention is a kit for preparing a medical catheter from catheter sections which are short relative to the length of the catheter. The catheter is divided into two or more sections configurable into two configurations. In one configuration, the sections are joined to form a catheter of a greater length than the length of each individual section. In the other configuration, the length of the catheter is reduced. The invention also relates to a method of producing a catheter section by injection molding.

- 30. A kit for preparing a catheter for draining a human bladder, the kit comprising at least first and second catheter sections arranged in a coextending fashion with a tubular protective member surrounding the first catheter section to form a substantially annular and longitudinally extending cavity between the first catheter section and the tubular protective member, a telescopic joint for interconnecting the first and the second catheter sections that forms a substantially liquid tight seal at a distal end of said cavity, the first and second catheter sections being configured to move between at least a first position and a second position with respect to each other, in the first position the second catheter section concentrically surrounding at least a portion of the first catheter section and at least a portion of the tubular protective member in a substantially coaxial arrangement and, in the second position, said first catheter section with said tubular protective member being extended by linear movement out of said second catheter section so that said second catheter section forms a substantially axial extension of said first catheter section which provides a continuous fluid passageway having a length greater that the individual lengths of the first and second sections, the tubular protective member being removably connected to the joint and/or to the second catheter section, so that, when the tubular protective member is removed, a proximal end portion of the first catheter section is exposed and ready for insertion into the human urethra when the catheter sections are in said second position with respect to each other.
- 47. A kit for preparing a catheter for draining a human bladder, the kit comprising first and second catheter sections arranged in axial alignment in both a first position and a second position relative to one another and joined by a telescopic joint by which said first and second catheter sections are linearly movable between said first and second positions while retaining said axial alignment, and a tubular protective member enclosing the first catheter section and concentric therewith, substantially all of said tubular protective member with said first catheter section concentrically arranged therein being telescopically received within said second catheter section in said first position of said kit, said tubular protective member with said first catheter section remaining therein configured to extend lengthwise telescopically relative to said second catheter section in said second position of said kit to provide a continuous fluid passageway having a length greater than the length of each of the first and second sections.
