1. A test system for measuring a concentration of an analyte of interest in a biological fluid, the test system comprising:
- a test meter comprising a connector having at least ten contacts; and
a test strip adapted to be inserted into the test meter connector, the test strip comprising;
a substrate having a surface;
at least one measurement electrode formed on the surface;
at least ten contact pad positions defined on the surface;
wherein the at least ten contacts make contact with the respective at least ten contact pad positions when the test strip is inserted into the test meter connector;
wherein one contact pad position is not electrically coupled to the at least one measurement electrode.
