1. A light emitting device, comprising:

  • a plurality of GaN-based light emitting elements monolithically formed on an insulating substrate, each light emitting element comprising an n-type layer, a p-type layer, a first side, and a second side, the second side being a different side of the light emitting element than the first side; and

    a plurality of conductors connecting the plurality of light emitting elements in series, at least one of the plurality of conductors comprising;

    a first portion disposed on the n-type layer of a first light emitting element of the plurality of light emitting elements, the first portion having a bent line shape and being disposed on both the first side and the second side of the first light emitting element;

    a second portion disposed on the p-type layer of a second light emitting element of the plurality of light emitting elements, the second portion having a bent line shape and being disposed on both the first side and the second side of the second light emitting element; and

    a third portion connecting the first portion to the second portion.
