A method of treating a nerve-related vision disorder in a subject in need thereof comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a formulation of an insulinomimetic agent to an eye affected by the nerve-related vision disorder via a periocular route, wherein the therapeutically effective amount is effective to achieve a local therapeutic effect without a substantial systemic effect.
