1. A system for detecting laser-irradiated embedded material in an inhabitable structure, the system comprising:

  • an optical system adapted to receive light emitted from an interaction region of the inhabitable structure during irradiation of the interaction region with laser light; and

    an analyzer responsive to at least a portion of the received light by generating a detection signal indicative of the embedded material within the interaction region;

    wherein the system is adapted to initiate cessation of laser irradiation upon detecting indications of the embedded material, so as to avoid damage to the embedded material in the inhabitable structure.
