1. A system for dispatching thermal energy in a solar power generating plant with thermal energy storage, comprising:
- a solar power generating plant comprising a solar collector field, thermal energy storage, and a power block operative to generate electricity;
a dispatch controller comprising a computer processor and computer readable medium accessible to the processor;
control logic stored on the computer readable medium and implemented by the processor, the processor when implementing the control logic being operative to generate an optimized thermal energy dispatch schedule which controls operation of the generating plant by performing a combination of direct thermal energy storage and indirect thermal energy storage simulations, the processor implementing the dispatch schedule and controlling flow of thermal energy through the generating plant in accordance with the dispatch schedule.

A system and computer-implemented method for dispatching thermal energy and generating power in a solar power generating plant. The system includes a computer processor, computer readable medium, and control logic stored on the computer readable medium to direct the operation of the processor. The processor generates an optimized thermal energy dispatch schedule which controls operation of the generating plant by performing a combination of direct thermal energy and indirect thermal energy storage simulations to maximize operating revenues.
