1. An apparatus for generating a vector of digital signal samples (S) for transmission in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

  • a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) circuit that receives a discrete signal of complex data symbols (C), and calculates frequency responses (A1, . . . AM) corresponding to tones (f(1), . . . f(M)), through an M-point DFT, and outputs a vector [A1, . . . AM] of length M;

    a circuit that expands the vector [A1, . . . AM] to a new vector of length N that comprises a first set of tones and a second set of tones, the first set of tones corresponding to tones other than tones allocated to a transmitter and the second set of tones being contiguous;

    an inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) circuit that performs an N-point inverse discrete Fourier transform operation on the new vector after expansion to obtain the vector of digital signal samples (S) by inserting zero value symbols corresponding to tones not allocated to the transmitter;

    a pre-pend circuit configured to pre-pend a cyclic prefix to the vector of digital signal samples (S); and

    a transmitter circuit configured to generate a signal representing the pre-pended vector of digital signal samples for transmission.
