1. A medical device comprising:

  • an external elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending longitudinally between the proximal and distal ends;

    an internal elongate member extending within the lumen of the external elongate member and moveable relative to the external elongate member; and

    a retrieval assembly including a scaffolding configured to entrap an object, the scaffolding surrounding and enclosing at least a portion of a distal end of the internal elongate member, the retrieval assembly retractable within and extendable from the lumen of the external elongate member, and having a distal end configured to be selectively open or substantially closed and a proximal end directly and fixedly connected to the distal end of the internal elongate member, wherein the distal end of the retrieval assembly is adapted to be selectively open when the retrieval assembly is expanded or substantially collapsed, and wherein the retrieval assembly is configured to remain directly and fixedly connected to the distal end of the internal elongate member upon proximal retraction of the retrieval assembly from outside the lumen of the external elongate member into the distal end of the external elongate member;

    wherein the scaffolding includes wires that cross each other at points defining a plurality of spaces therebetween, the spaces configured to allow an object to pass into an interior of the retrieval assembly.
